Food Bank Board of Directors Name Volunteer and Organization of the Year
Feed My People Food Bank’s Board of Directors has named Jim Novotny as the 2013 Volunteer of the Year and Xcel Energy as the 2013 Organization of the year.
Novotny spends hours each week picking agency orders at Feed My People in preparation for delivery to hunger-relief agencies. He is a fixture in the warehouse each Tuesday and Thursday morning and is always willing to help out in whatever way possible.
“Jim is entirely flexible and always willing to assist,” said Doug Wakeman, warehouse manager, noting that Novotny often acts as a mentor in the training of new volunteers. “The hours that Jim volunteers in the warehouse are truly appreciated by all of us at Feed My People.”
Xcel Energy has supported Feed My People for 25 years through a variety of creative fundraisers and workplace activities including book/clothing/craft sales, massage days, cookouts, breakfasts, bowling outings and an online auction.
By donating their time, creativity and funds, these committed employees have generated more than $270,000 for the food bank. Part of the money raised includes generous matches of employee and retiree contributions from the Xcel Energy Foundation.
