Summer Meals Available for Children
Feed My People Food Bank invites local families to take part in the Weekend Kids’ Meals Program, which will continue into the summer months. Each Weekend Kids’ Meals bag will contain two breakfasts, two lunches and snacks for children to enjoy.
Summer can be a tough time for families. With more than 40 percent of children in west central Wisconsin qualifying for the federal free and reduced lunch program, summer means thousands of kids could struggle with hunger.
Earlier this year, Feed My People teamed up with researchers at UW-Eau Claire to identify where the best distribution points would be in the city of Eau Claire to reach the most children in need. Armed with this new information, Feed My People expanded its summer program and partnered with more local agencies to offer families 13 sites to pick up meal bags in Eau Claire and three sites in Chippewa Falls.
Scheels will help sponsor the bags for area children. Last summer, this program provided over 1,700 bags for youth in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls. Feed My People expects to serve more children this summer with the additional sites.
