Feed My People Food Bank Completes Building Expansion Campaign
Feed My People Food Bank announces the successful completion of its $3 million capital campaign goal for building expansion. The capital campaign wrapped up recently with a $100,000 donation from the Pablo Foundation. The campaign, known as Feeding Healthy Futures, was designed to position the organization to meet the rising need for food in west central Wisconsin.
"We admire Feed My People's dedication to supporting people's need for food. We are glad that the expanded facility will enable Feed My People to continue to do their generous, valuable work. It is amazing what Feed My People can do with a single dollar; each dollar making pounds and pounds of food accessible to an entire region. The Pablo Foundation is confident that the donated dollars will be utilized to their full potential and have a far reaching positive impact for many years to come," said Julia Johnson, Pablo Foundation Secretary.
Construction began in May and was completed this week. The facility expanded from 19,000 square feet to 45,000 square feet. Features include triple the amount of cooler space to accommodate more fresh product, triple the number of dock spaces to enable distribution of more food, double the number of pallet spaces to expand variety and quantity of product offering, double the volunteer work area, and a clean room installation which enhances sanitation for food packing.
"This project is not so much about a building but about our community taking care of one another. It is heartwarming to see us come together to assure that every family has enough to eat," said Emily Moore, executive director of Feed My People.
Other lead donors include B.A. Mason Trust, Charter Bank, Ann Gunderson-Thornburg, Mayo Clinic Health System, Otto Bremer Trust, RCU Foundation, and Rutledge Charities. All the Feed My People Food Bank board and staff contributed along with close to 200 other donors. Market & Johnson and SDS Architects provided pro bono construction management and design services.
A ribbon cutting event will be held at Feed My People Food Bank on October 24th at 3:00 p.m. Tours and cake will follow a short program. All members of the public are welcome to attend.
